Stuck on things to do over the weekends in Mumbai? Your plans just got sorted with The Green Co-op, an outdoor community market in BKC championing seasonal produce, alongside a curated collection of artisanal products from local brands and a thrilling line-up of pop-up menus from the city’s most prolific home chefs and bakers! Here’s everything you need to know about your new weekend destination.
The Green Coop at Jio World Drive, BKC
What?
The Green Coop is an outdoor community weekend market showcasing a treasure trove of fresh and seasonal produce; indigenous farm staples and thoughtfully-sourced pantry essentials from milled flours and ancient grains, to raw natural sugars and desi ghee.
You can also discover a trending range of cooking ingredients, alongside superfoods aplenty and artisanal produce underpinned by health and wellness. Think tricolour quinoa, homemade tofu, avocado oil, nut butters and so much more!
There are bean-to-bar chocolates, flavoured sourdough loaves, native hot sauces, kefir, kombucha and other fermented F&B offerings, third (and fourth!) wave coffee, matcha lattes and exquisite tea blends too (just in case coffee isn’t your cuppa tea!). What’s more, you can also expect to explore natural beauty and skincare, as well as to leave armed with fresh cut flowers and potted herbs and plants!
Limited edition pop-up menus from Mumbai’s up and coming home chefs and bakers ought not to be missed either, with plenty to graze on as you wander through the maze of stalls, shaded by pastel-hued pinstripe awnings.
And there are activities to keep you enthralled too. Think seed bomb workshops, live pottery sessions and more, with the roster changing every weekend to switch things up!
That sustainability is a core value of The Green Co-op, is reflected in thoughtful details from an organic, farm-to-table food philosophy right down to the jute detailing embodied by the backdrop.
Can I Bring my Furry Friends?
Definitely! Adjoining The Green Co-op, is Wagtail Park – a pet crèche where your canine loved ones can let loose while you eat, sip and enjoy!
Where?
The Green Co-op is part of the upcoming Jio World Drive retail precinct, located in Maker Maxity, BKC.
When?
The first edition of The Green Co-op is taking place between 23 – 26 January, between 4pm – 9pm.
It will be returning every weekend thereafter, with each new edit seeing a changing mix of local brands and chefs to keep things fresh for regular visitors. Do follow @The_Green_Co_op on Instagram for their latest updates.
Who’s involved?
Well, if the first edition is anything to go by, I’d ask who isn’t?
Some of the incredible players who have participated at The Green Coop include Trikaya (with their fresh greens and rainbow-hued seasonal produce); Enzu.life (with their plant-based alternatives to animal protein); Conscious Foods, Tillage and Praakritik (with their thoughtful selection of indigenous kitchen staples); Pink Harvest Farms (with all their superfoods and protein-pastas); Bean to Chocolatier and Paul & Mike (with their craveable collection of chocolates); CommBucha (with their fermented F&B offerings); and Naagin (who even launched a Mystery Hot Sauce at the first edition of the market).
Coffee has been powered by Bombay Island and Nandan, with Tea Trunk stirring up matcha lattes and hibiscus mint tea blends.
As for tasting menus, memorable dishes have included multigrain pizzas adorned with thecha burrata cream by I’m Wholesome; lemongrass roasted chilli coconut curry noodles by Sage & Saffron; hot chocolate affogato and chocolate-enrobed strawberries from Vanilla Miel; and a rather epic selection of the scrummiest desserts curated by Taste Retreat. Think anything and everything from Nutella stuffed brioche doughnuts and waffles made to order, to gluten-free and refined sugar free treats!
What about Covid considerations?
There are a number of safety guidelines in place to ensure. Masks, Aarogya Setu and temperature checks are mandatory, with sanitiser dispensers available with frequency and regular sanitisation of high contact surfaces. The market is also outdoors, which is conducive for following social distancing norms.
