If you’re hankering for a memorable pizza, there’s a new restaurant in Mumbai you ought to visit soon. Steeped in a legacy that dates back hundreds of years, Si Nonna’s is a contemporary pizzeria championing original Neapolitan-style pizzas crafted from a mother dough that’s five hundred years old! This heirloom starter and recipe has been passed down from Naple’s Nonna Galliano herself. Disarmingly-affable head chef Massimo is quick to give diners a whiff of the aged starter should they so wish, with a shared passion for pizzas shining through the food philosophy at Nonna’s. Here’s our review.
When would be best to visit Si Nonna’s?
Its relaxed charm makes Si Nonna’s as perfect for a quick working lunch for nearby office goers, as it is for a laidback catch-up with friends and family. They even have a dedicated kid’s menu, catering perfectly to family outings over the weekend!
What’s the space like?
There’s a rustic simplicity to Si Nonna’s enlivened by a colourful vespa by the entrance and vibrant greens hanging overhead. The star of the show is the colossal oven at the back of the open kitchen clad by tiles made from real vesuvian clay!
As for the menu?
As you’d expect, the menu at Si Nonna’s constellates on an impressive line-up of Neapolitan pizzas.
A 24-36 hour fermentation technique ensures a charred crust that is impossibly-pillowy and primed for dunking into one or more of the many dips on offer including a herby pesto. Our favourites include the Number 2, a classic Margherita blanketed by fresh basil and buffalo mozzarella. Number 5 is one for those who love their pizzas creamy, mushroomy and scented with the earthy richness of truffles!
Pizzas aside, you can choose between sharing plates running the gamut from a rosemary-tinged flatbread to crisp croquettes and a melt-in-your mouth eggplant parmigiana. Yes, there’s tiramisu for afters but also an other-worldly affogato to lift your next caffeine hit with a touch of creamy indulgence!
Our Review Of Si Nonna’s In A Nutshell
The sourdough pizzas at Si Nonna’s are set apart by their impossibly-light texture with a charred and chewy crust giving way to a pillowy base blanketed by a vast array of toppings. Pro Tip: be sure to leave with a loaf (or two) of their signature sourdough bread, carrying Nonna’s legacy back home with you!
