Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 25 minutes mins
For The Apples
- 2-3 apples (diced into large cubes)
- 2-3 tbsp butter
- ½ lemon (juiced)
- 2-3 tbsp brown sugar
For The Crumble
- ¾ cup + 2 tbsp all purpose flour
- ⅓ cup brown/ coconut sugar
- ⅓ cup softened butter
For The Custard
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tsp instant custard powder
- 1-2 tsp sugar
Apples
Melt a generous amount of butter in a pan and add in your apples, stirring regularly.
Add in the lemon juice and sugar and mix well.
Once softened, remove from heat. If you like your apples to still have a bite to them, then don’t overcook them!
Crumble
In a large bowl add in the flour and sugar; and give it a good whisk.
Add in your softened butter and using your fingers, mix until you have a crumbly texture!
Custard
Gently heat the milk and add instant custard powder and sugar.
Whisk well to combine and cook , stirring regularly on medium low heat until the custard has thickened but is of a pourable consistency.
In case it becomes too thick, just add a splash of milk to loosen it up!
To Bake The Crumble
Preheat the oven to 180C
Assemble the apples in an even layer in a small baking dish (or in individual ramekins instead). Top with an even layer of the crumble topping.
Bake until the tops are golden and there are softly caramelised bubbles peaking through.
Serve hot with custard and ice cream… and DIVE IN!
