There are many things that kept us coming back time and again to The Tasting Room at Good Earth’ sumptuous store in Raghuvanshi Mills. Those who shed a tear when the iconic restaurant shuttered a few years ago, can rejoice more so in knowing that this timeless bastion has reopened, this time with Chef Ritu Dalmia (of DIVA Restaurants) at the helm.
Needless to say, the restaurant remains absurdly pretty, albeit with refreshed interiors which reflect Good Earth’s 25 year anniversary design theme, BOSPORUS. From bright pin-striped walls and rattan chairs to sofas clad in the brand’s signature printed florals – every little detail is designed to swathe diners in an other-worldly sense of resplendence. This is an uncontestedly intimate spot; one which is as suited to ladies who lunch, as it is for cosy date nights softly illuminated by the striking glass chandeliers.
As for the menu, it’s infused with Chef Ritu’s warmth. Expect small plates alive with flavour and a sunny disposition of character imbued with wide-spanning Mediterranean influences. The produce is fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced.
A baby rocket salad is punctuated by creamy shreds of stracciatella, crunchy chickpeas and caramelised nuts. The highlight is a delicate dressing flavoured with saffron rose, hinting of the subtle Byzantine and Persian inspirations lacing the menu. The humble eggplant is lifted by a smoky chargrilled depth, whilst celeriac is celebrated as an unsung hero, baked into a juicy “steak” and served atop toasted bread with a scattering of capers and salted pumpkin seeds.
Our lunch is ushered to the table perfectly plated across Good Earth’s latest collection of serveware. The oohs and aahs over the vibrantly-hued plates are inevitably to be followed by a jaunt around the store, not least for table-scaping inspiration aplenty for our next dinner party!
All told, the experience is as epicurean as it is experiential. The entrancing aesthetic is evocative of a cocooning atmosphere, embracing you into a vibrant bolthole that you can’t help but feel instantly at home in. Would we return? Well, we’ve already booked ourselves back for lunch soon.
