Eight years on from when Suzette first opened (bringing a taste of Brittany to Bombay), the French trio behind it return South of the Sea Link with their eleventh outpost in the city: Kitchen Garden, Colaba.
Cosseted in a leafy by-lane behind The Taj Mahal Palace, the café cuts an inviting picture, flooded by natural light streaming in through arched windows.
Designed by co-founder & partner Antonia Achache, the interiors fit a thoughtful vision bringing the heritage charm of the colonial building in which the café is housed, into modern day. Think vintage tiling from Bharat Floorings, interspersed with boho-chic details, from potted plants to wicker seating!
Kitchen Garden’s D-I-Y salad bar commands pride of place, with the menu teeming with fan favourites including buckwheat pancakes, baked Shakshuka and sandwiches assembled with their signature sourdough (a labor of love, created by co-founder Jérémie Sabbagh after months of intensive training in Paris!). Needless to say, most ingredients are carefully-sourced and certified organic.
Coffee is freshly-brewed by the good folks at Koinonia and you’ll be thrilled to know there’s craft beer, fine French wines and champagne in the offing too, complemented by tapas-style dishes. The new menu additions feature quite a globe-trotting line-up, from roast-cauliflower, falafels and tahini (inspired by the Israeli rendition), to the oh-so-European smoked salmon, cold cuts and cheese platters.
While Kitchen Garden has always been a go-to for brunch, we have no doubt that its new opening is set to be a perfect post-work pit-stop too, whether for a drink and finger food, or a deliciously-healthy supper in one of their cosy corners!
