London Diaries: Top Picks for a December Detox

‘Tis the season for mulled wine and mince pies. Hot chocolate(s) galore and poffertjes at Winter Wonderland… Yes, the silly season is firmly upon us and along with it, the usual bevy of festive favourites!

But if you (like my Libran balance-loving self) are looking to hit the reset button between all that indulgence, here are a few of my best tips for a quick detox this December. I promise it’s anything but dreary and comes with a seasonal dose of retail therapy on the side too.

Chucs

For a light and bright start to the day, head to Chucs in Notting Hill.

Housed within a yacht-wear boutique, the modish cafe can help you prepare for that Caribbean getaway in more ways than one, as chef Alessandro Verdenell has recently introduced a number of healthy additions to the menu… Think super-smoothies with a Christmassy kick, eggs executed with much finesse and the most matcha-marvellous pancakes!

Grace Belgravia

On the subject of pancakes, the vegan buckwheat and protein powder-based stack at Grace Belgravia are not to be missed either.

One of the best-kept secrets amongst London’s well heeled, the Detox Brunch at this women-only wellbeing club is a virtuously decadent pleasure, to be savoured with a spot of me-time afterwards.

East by West at Maiyet

Then there’s East by West, a cafe by former model turned fit-food guru, Jasmine Hemsley.

The winter-warming bites here are as nutritious as they are packed full of vibrant flavours inspired by Jasmine’s recent trip to India, where she discovered the ancient philosophy of Ayurveda….

In a double-win, you’ll likely be able to cross quite a bit off your Christmas shopping list too, as the stylish cafe is conveniently situated inside Maiyet off Bond Street – a veritable treasure trove of a pop-up boutique that will have you lusting after anything and everything from the Mongolian cashmere to the Tom Dixon candles gracefully lining its shelves.

Full scoop, here.

 The Corner Restaurant at Selfridges

If you’re planning to head to Selfridges instead, you could follow up your visit to the department store’s shoe heaven by cooling your heels in the nearby Corner Restaurant afterwards.

The unmistakable ladies who lunch-esque vibe here is rather self-explanatory once you’ve had a glance through the menu, which features punchy salads and Skinny Champagne, a low-sugar brand of fizz made with 40% reserved wine. The finely crisp and oh-so-light  bubbles might just be the next best thing to… well, champagne!

MAE Deli Mayfair

But to really escape the bustle of Oxford Street, skip over to Deliciously Ella’s new Mayfair-based outpost of the MAE Deli.

The cosy basement here is apt for warming up in with a comfortingly soothing turmeric latte paired with her signature treats, which are relatively (if not entirely) guilt-free and bound to hit that sweet spot!
